Oman SIM card for Indians — Omantel vs. Ooredoo vs. roaming
Oman's Indian traveller base is mostly workers and their visiting families rather than leisure tourists. Both major carriers sell an almost identical tourist pack at the same price — here's the one difference that actually matters, plus how Indian roaming compares.
Local tourist packs — Omantel vs. Ooredoo
| Provider | Plan | Price | Data | Validity | Calls |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Omantel Tourist Pack | Tourist Pack | OMR 5 ≈ ₹1,100 | 4GB | 10 days | 50 combined local+India minutes, SMS allowance |
| Ooredoo Visitor Pack | Visitor Pack | OMR 5 ≈ ₹1,100 | 4GB | 60 days | 50 combined local+India minutes, SMS allowance |

The real trade-off
Omantel and Ooredoo charge the same OMR 5 for the same data and minutes — the decision comes down purely to how long you're staying. Under 10 days, either works; over 10 days, Ooredoo's 60-day validity is the only one that won't expire on you.
Oman SIM — common questions
Omantel vs Ooredoo Oman tourist pack — which is better?
Both cost the same, OMR 5 (≈ ₹1,100), for the same 4GB data and 50 combined local+India minutes — the only real difference is validity. Omantel's Tourist Pack lasts 10 days; Ooredoo's Visitor Pack lasts 60 days. For anything longer than a 10-day trip, Ooredoo's pack is the clearly better value at the identical price.
Does Omantel have an India-specific calling add-on?
Yes — Omantel also offers a "Marhaba World" add-on pack specifically for extra India-calling minutes on top of its base Tourist Pack, useful if the included 50 minutes isn't enough for calling home.
Is a Jio/Airtel/Vi roaming pack a better option for Oman?
For a very short trip (a day or two), an Airtel roaming pack (₹698 for 1 day/1GB) avoids registering a new SIM. For anything longer, both Omantel and Ooredoo's tourist packs give far more data and minutes for roughly the same ₹1,100 price point, making the local option better value for most trips.
Who needs an Oman SIM — tourists or workers?
Oman's Indian-traveller segment is mostly expat-worker driven rather than leisure tourism. If you're visiting a family member working in Oman or travelling for a short trip, the tourist packs above cover that use case; longer-term residents typically move to a full postpaid or resident prepaid plan instead.
